NPR Code of Ethics

Do we really need to be kind, or do we need to just focus on informing the public? Truth over all?

This reminds me of the "heavy" vs "thickset" issue. Trying to dance around people's feelings and keep everyone happy can get a little ridiculous. I think that a basic policy of compassion is important, but trying to be too nice all the time will get you nowhere.

Victor: I need to call the class's attention to this ethics set. I like the emphasis on completeness with the notion of finding the most persuasive and reasonable ideas - an act of judgment, of course - on the various sides of the argument. Transparency comment is also interesting, emphasizing transparency concerning methods. It all sounds rather earnest and high-minded, but that's the NPR brand. Pretty optimistic about its mission and its audience.
